Conclusion
I want to express how grateful I am to the Syracuse University MILS program for giving me the opportunity to pursue this degree. My undergraduate GPA, earned more than twenty years ago, did not fully represent the professional experience, growth, and determination I had developed toward learning since I graduated college. I deeply appreciate that the admissions committee considered the quality of my more recent work and recognized the value of the skills and perspective I could bring to the program. I am also thankful that I was able to apply to the program without involving my current employer before I was ready to share my future long-term career plans. Throughout the program, I have continued working full-time and balancing my professional, academic, family, and community responsibilities. I expect to remain with my current employer for some time as I thoughtfully prepare for an eventual transition into the library and information field.
This program has taught me far more than I anticipated. It has strengthened my research, leadership, technology, instructional-design, and information-literacy skills while helping me better understand equity, accessibility, ethics, community engagement, and the responsibility information professionals have to the people they serve in our communities. Most importantly, the program helped me recognize that many of the projects and interests I had already pursued were part of a developing professional identity that I plan to continue to pursue after my career in technology. I am eternally grateful that Syracuse saw potential in my archival work and gave me the opportunity to transform that experience into a meaningful new direction.
